WSU Tri-Cities Wine Science Union

Toward the end of last year I had the privilege of meeting Alex Gelles while on the WSU Tri-Cities campus. He mentioned trying to get a Wine Science Union running and from there I committed to helping.

Alex and the vice-president of Wine Science Union, Nathan Richardson, have done the majority of the paperwork to get the ball rolling, but now we have to deal with university rules and restrictions on how we can use our student organization funds. We are hoping to get a wine tour set for spring semester, have a few guest speakers at our meetings, and host an occasional tasting.

A key part of learning about wine is tasting and developing a palate. The student money we have been allotted cannot be used to purchase wine for tastings, so now we get to seek out donations. If you have any ideas on places or people who may be willing to donate, please let me know!

32nd Annual Tri-Cities Wine Festival

Get ready to mark your calendars wine lovers! The 32nd Annual Tri-Cities Wine Festival is coming up on November 5th and 6th. This is the longest running judged wine festival in the region and draws a crowd from all over the Northwest. The event is being held at the Tri-Cities Convention Center and is open to the public. Those in attendance must be 21 and be able to provide a valid photo ID.

All seminar tickets MUST be purchased in advance on Ticketmaster, at Ticketmaster outlets, or at the Toyota Center Box Office. Tickets for the Wine Gala and Silent Auction may be purchased at any of the outlets listed above or at the door on Saturday for $65. Proceeds from the silent auction go to the Tri-City Wine Society’s educational fund benefitting viticulture and enology students.

Heaven’s Cave Cellars will be taking part in the event, so make sure to stop by and say hello. I’ll be volunteering on behalf of the Wine Science Union at WSU Tri-Cities and look forward to seeing a few familiar faces!
